So got a few answers to my questions. Juan Peron took a 14 year old Mistress, became an exile in Paraguay. Then married a woman named Isabel. Evita's embalmed body disappeared. There isn't a serious book in the Guilford Public Library on Pocahontas. I think I'll have to go to one of the big University libraries to continue my research. My guess for the women at the Alamo were that they were raped, but I haven't found any confirmation. If they weren't, I'd like to know if it was Santa Anna's idea or not. Haven't had the chance to look into the Dumas / Three Musketeers thing.
Had a great weekend. We had to get up early on Saturday because I needed to mail a grant out to be postmarked by the 15th. Purge got a cup of coffee at Cilantro's in Guilford while I fought the Saturday postal crowd. Then we went to Home Depot to find 5 gallons of peanut oil. We found it at Lowes. Then we went to Walgreens to pick up snacks for the movie. They're carrying all of Atkin's line, which was cool. I bought a breakfast bar for Sunday, but I prefer the Carbolite candy bars, so I bought a peanut butter cup 0.1 g of carbs and a chocolate almond bar 1.2 g of carbs. This freed up Purge to get the popcorn he so desperately wanted. We got to the movie really early, which we never do because time just worked out that way. We saw "Once upon a time in Mexico", which was OK. Banderas is old. I really liked Johnny Depp's character and I love Robert Rodriguez as a storyteller and a director. The next big movie I can't wait to see is Kill Bill, but that doesn't come up until October. Then it's the Matrix and the Return of the King. I lost another lb, so we're down to 18 lbs. I'm hoping to reach 20 lbs by the end of this week. After the movie, we didn't feel like going home, so we went to the Guilford Library, where I went crazy finding all these neat books. Then we went home and cooked a bit and then relaxed. Purge played Kingdom Hearts and I went on the Internet until Kazaa's spyware and pop up ads crashed the system twice. Then I just decided to call it a night.
Sunday, we were having my family over to celebrate Purge's birthday. He turns 35 this Friday. Chynnakatt turns 33 on either Tuesday or Wednesday, I can never remember. So it's a birthday week. I don't know if Isabel will intrude on our weekend plan's, but after reading obi2's blog. I got a little paranoid. See, I'm the one who remembers Gloria fondly as a time for no school and watching the weather through sliding glass doors (I wasn't a bright kid). I remember going outside during the eye of the storm and feeling the electricity in the air and smelling the ozone. I remember everything being so GREEN. I remember the fun of "camping" indoors with bottled up water and cooking on the grill. I remember reading by candlelight and listening to the radio. It was FUN, I tell you, FUN! Then I read that Gloria was a type 1 and Isabel is a 5. My mouth made an O and now that I'm a homeowner started thinking twice about the FUN involved in a hurricane. Now, Isabel, as we speak has just been downgraded to a type 1 and is looking to smash into NC and Atlantic city, I doubt we're going to get anything but a mild tropical depression. But at the time of Obi2's blog, it didn't look so tame, so Purge and I did a quick list and the only things we really need are batteries and a small radio. We said we were going to take all of his empty soda bottles that we were going to use for his beer and fill them up with water. But we were going to wait on buying the plywood until Wednesday or Thursday because it's more likely that NC, NJ and Long Island will buffer the winds and slow Isabel way down before it reached us. So we'll see how much the procrastinator twins actually do. I'm kinda hoping we do lose power so I can be out of work for a week. Although, I suppose that would be a lot more fun if I was actually on salary and would be getting paid for that time. But lawds a mercy, I could use a break.
Sunday dinner was really nice. No one brought food! I was absolutely amazed. We deep fried a turkey in my father's turkey fryer and it was incredible. It was done in 45 minutes for a 12 lb bird. There was very little leftovers -- enough for lunch for me and Purge today. The oil was expensive ($25) and the bird was expensive $1.39 a lbs. We wanted to get another one and fry one up and freeze the meat, since this is perfect for Atkins. That way we wouldn't waste the oil. But then again, I don't want to have a full freezer if we're going to lose power for a week!
